Family is very important. Norma and I have been married since 1984 and we have three wonderful grown children (Alison in Tucson, AZ; Christa in Seattle, WA and Robbie in Richmond, VA). My father, an ordained Presbyterian minister, also lives in Florence.
Our family tree is littered with pastors, mostly Presbyterian with a few Methodists thrown in.
Over the past 30 years, I have been in and out of the full time pastorate with short stints of running my own home repair business in between. Along the way, I have served churches in California, Missouri and Virginia.
A constant throughout my ministry has been working with children and youth. In Missouri Norma and I started a preschool ministry, in Virginia I helped the preschool grow and flourish. In each ministry call I have organized and lead youth/adult mission trips. I know this is a growing edge for the congregation, but we will find a way.
I love playing volleyball, basketball and other sports. I’m not much of professional sports fan -- my favorite team is usually the local high school team. Authors I like to read include Brian McLaren, C S Lewis, Tony Hillerman, and Clive Cussler. By far my favorite hobby is telling and hearing good jokes. If the two happiest days of a man’s life are the days he buys and sells his boat, I have had several happy days owning several small sail boats.
