Professional Employment Opportunity

Church Organist / Pianist / Accompanist

Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw in Florence, Oregon

Desired start date as soon as possible.

This permanent, 12-month, part-time position which includes paid sick leave and four weeks of annual paid vacation offers an excellent professional growth opportunity for a graduate with a performance degree in piano or organ who is proficient in classical music on both instruments. The position also includes directing a hand bell choir, so some training in conducting would be an asset.

The incumbent, who is leaving to pursue a graduate degree, has been able to supplement income by working at a second church, providing private music lessons, directing a community choir, and providing musical support for other local events. The position pays $750 per month, and offers the possibility of the use of a small studio apartment at no cost. Florence also has a significant number of nonprofessional, part-time employment opportunities available.

Responsibilities include worship planning in collaboration with the pastor, the choir director, and the Worship Team; accompanying the choir, instrumental and vocal soloists, and ensembles in rehearsals and worship; selecting appropriate pre-service, prelude, offertory, Communion, and postlude music for regular and special worship services and supporting the congregation during congregational singing.

Our congregation has approximately 105 members, with regular Sunday attendance of about 80, mainly active older adults. The congregation appreciates fine music, participates enthusiastically, and strongly supports the music program. Our music ministry enhances the spoken message and adds inspiration to our worship experience. Our single, traditional worship service at 10:00 includes a choir of 20 members, accompanied by either organ or piano. Choir rehearsal requires a 1.5 hour commitment one afternoon during the week.

The Florence community, on the scenic central Oregon coast, 65 miles west of Eugene, is home to 14,000 residents, 50% retired, including many artists and musicians. Local attractions include ocean beaches, 29 lakes, three rivers, forest hikes, sand dunes, moderate climate, an events center, library, and hospital. Our church instruments include a concert-quality Boston Grand Piano, Rodgers Organ Model 690, and a 4-octave Malmark hand bell set.

Please see our homepage at www.florencepresb.org for more information about our church. For more information about the position, contact Paul Floto, chair of the

Finance/Administration/Personnel Team at paulfloto@gmail.com. To apply, send a resume with links to examples of your performances or a disc or other computer file demonstrating your musical proficiency.

The position is open until filled.
